When we transition during the time of death, whether through serious illness, accident, violence, etc., a soul might be confused and not understand what happened. This can be healed after death and is the work of a psychopomp. Psychopomp is a Greek word meaning “guide or conductor of the soul.” As a Psychopomp guide, we are sometimes also called upon to guide the soul as it enters or leaves this life. When called into psychopomp service to help those who are dying, we: Help to ease the fears about the impending transition, both for the dying and for the family. Help the dying person to understand the process of dying from a spiritual perspective. Can help the dying person alleviate burdens and attachments to this life that make the transition frightening or difficult. Can help connect the dying to loved ones and well ancestors who are already in the spiritual realms. This work prepares the dying to understand that they are transitioning from one state to another, and that their process is supported by loving spirits who will guide and keep them safe. Psychopomp work is useful to help heal those who have died, but are unable to let go of attachments that are keeping them earthbound. They may be confused about what has happened to them and we help the soul to understand the events of their death so they can continue their journey.
